Oddworld Return of Oddworld MMOSG

I'm back with this again! I have to honestly admit that I lost interest last time because my computer kept going down... But maybe it won't do that now, huh?! What honestly motivated me to returning to this idea was the fact that I showed Oddworld to one of my friends on Furc (http://www.furcadia.com) and she likes it so much that we roleplay Sligs now.

I was afraid to find the old topic and post on it, so I made a new one. For those of you who are new and have no idea what I'm talking about, here's the summary:

Furcadia is a free Massively Multiplayer Online Socializing Game which is practically completely customizable. The default theme is about furries, 'animals who walk on two legs and speak', but it is very easy to turn the maps, walkabout, and even client interface into anything you find or draw. With the right pixel art and programming, it's easy to make a little Oddworld that everyone can come to.

That's this place that has a Pokemon theme. All I need to do is make some Oddworld avatars and you can march around as a Slig or a Paramite.

The real purpose of this thread is for me to post what I'm currently working on and get opinions on it. I've already made a Paramite avatar, you can see it:

here http://www.freewebs.com/sligsbarrack...tetutorial.jpg
and here http://www.freewebs.com/sligsbarrack...etutorial2.jpg

(Keep in mind that those are Furcadia's 'default' colors, so if you wanted to use that avatar and you had yourself set to have bright pink fur, you'd come in as... well, a bright pink Paramite)

I'm going to worry about the map (the place you'd be walking around in) later; first priority right now is the avatar, or walkabout set. I started making a little crawling Slig and it looks pretty cute.

Now putting that thing in pants is a whole other story. I got a cool idea actually, I can draw little Pants machines, and if you touch the machine and you're a crawling Slig, you get'cha pants. That's for later though. If there is ANYONE who is good at drawing sligs, PLEASE contact me. You don't have to know pixel art really well, but if you can sketch me any ideas on how I might draw the pants running, that'll work as well.

I just played around the idea for a few minutes this morning, here is my sheet, and this is what I want opinions on!

Thanks for your reading time! I'll actually be working on this back and forth with the Abe's Exoddus soundtrack, the non-main themes are really hard to get. x_X It's not just about finding a quiet place to sit and record, but I've gotta do some crazy things to arouse some music and then run and keep it going. To get the "Freeze!" or barks or howls or hisses out from the beginning, I have to cut and paste it so it sounds smooth. Anyways, when I perfect these, I'll be sending them to Max the Mug, and he's bein' so nice as to host them for me!

This looks to be a fine idea. I fully support it. If I had any skill with pixel art, I'd even help you with it.
I do have a suggestion for the slig you've got going, feel free to ignore it: it looks to be a bit on the cubby side ... maybe a little trimmer?
In all other aspects this is fine work. Kudos!

Perhaps being middle aged has the same weight gain effects in sligs as it does in humans. Har har.

I have to admit that slig pants are possibly the most difficult thing I've attempted, and I think they're coming out pretty okay. o_O I can't be sure though, I still need some opinions ._. It's really hard because I'm used to seeing Sligs in 2D, facing either left or right. Furcadia has a grid that's like diagonal... I defatened the slig and tried sticking it in pants (though that is not the final thing at all, infact I plan to move the arm up a little more...) to see what it looked like. I really, really don't look forward to the back-walking positions, but I'll try my best with the front ones.

I'm aware that the pants look too small for it now, the slig itself is going to be resized. It's too big already compared to the paramite, I think...

Hmm....Well if you change the coloring of the pants and make the sligs original camoflauge color then it would look good IMO.

They won't be colored like that when you use them. ^^ When you make a character on Furcadia (a username, you can say) you always have your own colors that you can change, like vest, trouser, and fur colors. When I draw the default avatar I have to use those grey/blacks and pinks so when you use that avatar, it'll change to whatever you're set to be. If you want your mask to be black, you change your hair color on Furcadia to black, and it will be black. If you want it to be green, same thing.

That's why I use that little gradient. The pink I'm using for the mask is the hair color, the grey/brown is the hair color, and the green I'm going to use for the pants is trouser color. Sorry if that's confusing, I don't know how to explain that too well. x_x

Inside the blue square of what it would look like with its remapped to normal Slig colors. Yes, this is a first complete still! ^^ How does it look?

The first thing to do is actually try it yourself. (You can contact me there once you know how to whisper, I'm usually on Shadow Link or Slig). I chose it because the requirements were so low and it worked dandy. You don't need money, a fast internet connection, or a good computer to run it, so /everyone/ can use it. Anyways, that's offtopic. I made a little tutorial for people who just walked on for the first time and were wondering just how the thing worked. Here it is, and if you read it, you'll have a better understanding of the avatar work I'm doing:

http://www.freewebs.com/sligsbarrack...20of%20art.htm

Also, if you're good with pixel art, a helping hand would be excellent once you've learned enough about what you're doing.

And thanks for the compliments! ^^ I plan to start the two animated frames tonight or tomorrow.

I'm actually starting to love the way this is coming out. Maybe it's just 'cause I love sligs and slogs so much.

Do you guys like that style for the slog?

Thank you thank you thank you! ^^ Every word keeps me going.

But no, there won't be only Sligs and Slogs. In Furcadia, there are seven default open types of things you can be. I plan for these to include slig, slog, paramite, mudokon, scrab, fleech, and maybe gabbit or glukkon, I haven't decided yet. Of course, now that I think about it, what species would you like to have me do?

Try listing what seven things from Oddworld you would like to have as avatars (they have to include Slig and Slog because I've already started them, but what other four?).

Xavier: Maybe it should be... It makes sense.
Ajiellyn: Along with sligs and slogs ... I'd like to see mudokons, glukkons, gabbits, vykkers, and steefs. That makes seven.

I actually thought of that too, but I'm not sure. The whole project isn't just art, later I'll be asking opinions on the programming and layout... It starts out with art. Depends if you consider the MMOSG project an art.

No just leave it where it is.
Hey I got a good Idea, ok you should make several Glukkons(Dripik, Aslik, Phleg, Lulu and maybe others)so you could choose which one you wanted to be.

perhaps I'll just move this to the fan forum
and when you need some questions about the code you can start another topic.
is that fine for everybody?
