Is the place where you come from famous?

Mine is, the Isle of Man.
My island is famous for many things:
Biggest waterwheel in the world (Lady Isabella or the Laxey wheel)
The T.T Motor-Bike Racing. (They're thinking about not doing it anymore, to many people are being killed )
Kippers! (Smoked Herring)
Castle rushen, one of the most well preserved Castle in Britain.
Manx cats, the only place with cats with no tails!

Not really, FG; this one is asking what the place you live in is famous for.

Knoxville, TN is sort of near Nashville, which is called the "Country Music Capital of the World" or something like that. Yee-haw.

It's most famous for being the birthplace of George Vancouver, the explorer who founded Vancouver City in Canada.

Yakima . . . let's see. According to the sign on the highway entrance we're "The Palm Springs of Washington".

I live in a dump. We're known for living in the middle of a desert wasteland. That's all.

My town is famous for stock-car racing. Not that most people care, though because I certainly don't!

Ditto.

We're not known for much, although we do have the pathetic landmark known as the "Sun Sphere." It's basically a "giant" (and I'm using that term loosely) golden ball sitting on top of an ugly green tower. The whole thing isn't even as tall as some of the ghetto apartments that surround it. Pathetic.

Quentin Tarintino is from Knoxville.

A band called Superdrag is also from Knoxville. We were mentioned on MTV for the fifteen minutes they had a hit song in circulation. Woo.

More recently, a no-talent hack going by the name of Johnny Knoxville made a show called "Jackass," and yes, he actually is from Knoxville.

Oh, I forgot to mention that one of the members of Weezer went to our high school for a year or two. I think it was Brian Bell.

I am not sure what year this happened in but I believe it was in 69 when a bunch of Kent State University College students were shot at by national guards men. All I know is that event prompted many famous rock songs.

Yeah I live in Kent Ohio hippy ville USA!

Dallas, Texas. Where JFK got shot. Other than that, nothing famous I don't think.

...now I'm probably going to feel stupid because someone else is going to point out something that I really should know about.

The LOTR series was made in this city. It was mainly made by Americans, anyways (No offense, we like you, it just shouldn't be stamped as NZ made). Feh, whoopdie-crap. Otherwise, capital of NZ. Nothing that special.

Hellevoetsluis (don't try to say it, it is too hard for non-dutch) used to be a "capitol" for the Dutch Navy. It was here where Piet Heyn set sail to intercept the Spanish silver fleet, and afer a succesful raid, returned with the millions of silver.

Now it's just a retarded, boring town...

The actual town I live in isn't exactly famous for anything, as it's a small town that tries to keep to itself (though that is a result of everyone being completely obnoxious), so I'll simply refer to Sydney, which is where I live, on a more grander scale.

Sydney hosted the 2000 Olympics. We have the Harbour Bridge, and not too mention the Opera House. We also have Center Point Tower, the tallest building in Sydney (probably Australia too, but definitely not the world). We also have a very large Catholic Cathedral, St. Mary's Cathedral, which houses an all-boys Catholic Systemic School, as well as Cardinal George Pell.

I could go on forever, but for the purposes of this thread, I'll stop before I start rambling

Alcar...

Ooh, I can add some less famous things.
Norfolk, the county, is well Norfolk. Often seen as a farming, backwards, in-bred area...
Lynn has lots of old buildings, ranging from the twelve (maybe thirteen) hundreds to the present day.
Sometimes, GMTV show King's Lynn on the national weather.
By sometimes, I mean it's happened twice, both times they were doing their 'random nothing town shown' thing.

Oh, and it's also famous for having an apostrophe (') in it's name. Yayness.

Oh! I got it! The Yakima Native American tribe after which my city is named is mentioned in Christopher Moore's novel, Coyote Blue, in which they're mentioned in one sentence which says that they've just gotten into crack. Or was it coke? Anyway. Yay.

For the record, the spelling of the tribe's name has now been officially changed to Yakama, and I have no proof either refuting or supporting Mr. Moore's statement, which was in a largely fictional novel. The Yakama are a large and respectable tribe with a rich and fascinating culture. And the buffet at the Yakama reserve-- un-freaking-believable. We go there for brunch on special occasions (e.g. Easter).

We're also a large exporter of apples! Wow! We have a strong trade relationship with Japan! We are also to be home to a gigantic new county jail situated in a corner of the fair grounds! When the carnival comes around in the fall, the inmates will get to watch all the little kids running around having fun!

And finally, we're the biggest ultra-conservative impoverished uneducated hellhole this side of the Mississippi! Not really. I'm sure there are a few places worse than this. Like Flint, MI, maybe.

I can't think of anything specifically famous really. The only things I can think if is, just down the road from me (and by just down the road, I mean about a mile away) is the Bank of England. That's where all English notes are printed. Also, Epping Forest, that's where Dick Turpin did his highwayman business about 300 years ago before he buggered off to York.

Wolverhampton.

It has the Bank's brewery which supplies the UK with beer. It also has the Wolves soccer stadium, I hear wolves were once a good team but they're very crap now. During the early 20th century we had lots of factories that made bits and bobs, thus we became known as "the workshop of..." I can't remember what we were the workshop of.

More importantly, Slade are from here! "So here it is! Merry Christmas!"

As yes, I seem to have forgotten about out trademark wings. They just don't taste the same in other places. If anyone gets a chance, if you're in town, go to the Anchor Bar. It's the first place to ever have Buffalo wings. Mm-mmm good.
