Fantsy or Sci Fi

When you think of videogames there are two main types of fiction games. The 2 most popular types are the fantsy/horror games and the futuristic type. Well in your opinion which is better, if you had to choose. Do you enjoy seeing aliens get blow to peices or do you like to see that sword through the throat. Yes there are games that fall int oboth group like Final Fantasy and such but which elements do you enjoy more.

Hop, voted !
I've voted for Fantasy, I really prefer playing a coloured game with funny and odd creature.
In general, robots, guns and other primitive things give me headdaches... -_-

Sci-fi.

Fantasy is dull IMO. Not starwars like sci-fi. Dune owns

Personally I'm a fan of the Fantasy games rather than the Sci-Fi games since they tend to be done on a whole different level. I have yet to run into an awesome Sci-Fi game... although I suppose Half-Life could count? The Master of Orion series was the only somewhat cool Sci-Fi game I played.

So you would like to go sword swinging over laser shooten, thats what most of you say. Well I would have to agree, when you are playing Fantsy games and you fight your foe with honor and suceed it feels like you are that person, as to betting some alien, another day another alien. Fantsy has a real feel to it while also being completely fiction. In fantsy games you find yourself saying "have at ye", as you attack your enemy, you find yourself discussing tatics as you play a Fantsy/Medieval stratgy game.

I have voted for Fantasy because, like you said, Shadowman, I like it when the fighting actually seems like there's a bit of skill to it, not just point shoot shoot, now he's dead.
I like a few Sci-Fi games, like Jedi Knight II, but overall, Fantasy is better in my mind.

Fantasy, because most of the sci-fi games I've played/seen are pretty much the same. And there aren't many, I think.

That's a hard choice for me because I love both fantasy and sci-fi. But if I had to choose out of the two, I guess I'd choose fantasy because fantasy is found in many different forms in games whereas sci-fi is almost the same type of thing all the time.

The very Half-Life symbol is science.

Also Halo is a Sci-Fi game, and I'm guessing you like that.

Sci-Fi

It's Sci Fi for me, I'd much rather fly a high powered space cruiser around an unknown galaxy than swing a sword at some goblins.

Yeah, I do like the sci-fi stuff like that, but as someone else in this thread said, most of the sci-fi games are just the same. You sort of feel like you've seen it all before with most of them.

Oddworld is sci-fi, except for the actual species designs. If you made them humans, I'd say Oddworld is fully sci-fi.

Edit: Actually, maybe not, I forgot about all the magic.

I'd love to make my own sci-fi game or even just design it. Not all sci-fi is blasting aliens. Some sci-fi stuff has deep invloving storylines that are original.

Not all Sci-fi games are shooters. What about KOTOR, F-zero, or Starfox.

Yeah, I guess I do sort of like sci-fi elements better, for example I prefer the technology stuff to the magical stuff. I think I'm pretty much in the middle but probably a bit closer to liking fantasy than sci-fi. Just a tiny little fraction.
:

Same here. I've considered making movie like things or games, but it always turns out that my ideas are too ambitious for me to go through with all on my lonesome. And I always give up before anyone helps. I should probably be a bit more patient when I'm waiting for help. Trouble is, I know how to do C++ working with Windows and stuff, but I'm getting a bit confused when I get up to OpenGL. Maybe I just need to keep working on it, I used be totally confused about Windows stuff, too.
Anyway, back to the topic, I like sci-fi and fantasy, but I think I like fantasy just a little bit more.
