Dead All Hallow's Horrorfest suggestions

What three horror movies would you select for your viewing terror on Halloween night?

A bit early for Halloween, but sure. Why not?
  • Evil Dead and/or Army of Darkness
  • Alien
  • Earlier Friday the 13th stuff
  • Dead Alive (for comic relief)
  • The Ring (say what you must, but I still like it)

And naturally, what list wouldn't be complete without Night of the Living Dead.

Dude.

Night of the Living Dead- Always roxors my boxors.
The Shining- Watched most of the end at a Halloween party I had a while back. Seemed good.
The Fog- Surely one of the best horror movies ever to strike mankind? The fact the DVD can be found new for under 10$ doesn't hurt the cause, either.

Well if you want a good laugh you should rent the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's all worth it for Leatherface's dance.

Also -

Cut with Molly Ringwald

And how bout a lovely newer 'classic' - Scream.

The Sixth Sense is scary. And thought-provoking. And the ending was great, when Bruce Willis's character realizes he's a ghost. That was shibby! And M. Night was doing so well until he decided to make The Village.

Good suggestions. Most of the newer ones I've seen, but I haven't watched any classic classic horror movies. I'm going to check out some of these.

Probably Gothika, though I would prefer to watch it having never seen it before.. Also 28 Day's Later, because it's English and I like it very much and I have it on DVD.

I've heard Gothika is sort of a cliché ghost movie. But I suppose I should peruse it and make my own judgement.

The Ring seriously grossed me out. That was a really sick movie. Which, I guess, means that the filmmakers did their job perfectly. Odd.

So are these movies you guys actually find scary? Because I honestly haven't seen a movie that had me properly scared since The Sixth Sense and I saw that when it first came out on video, so I am keen to frighten myself, and I might perhaps make a night out of them with my friends

Well, I'm usually out causing the most demonic mayhem on Halloween but if I were to have a horror movie marathon I'd choose...

1. Hellraiser (old school, baby)
2. Hellraiser 2
3. Nightmare on Elm Street (nothing beats the original)
4. House of a Thousand Corpses (It sucks, but it's supposed to)
5. IT (it's long and has a crap ending but it's a great movie)

Gothika is scary?I have seen it before and I dont think its even close to scary . You only see the ghost like 4 times . I would pick

1. All the Evil Dead Movies
2. Dog Soldiers
3. Jason X

Dog Soldiers and Jason X both sucked! Aren't you people sick of the same old clich'e ninety minutes of mindless gore and gun-slinging madness? Jason X was a perfect example of how they could turn a classic into a corny Sci Fi flick. Dog Soldiers was just plain stupid, it made no sense and the effects just sucked. Just pure gore. Oh well, you like what you like.

To get just a little bit edgy with watching horror films, you have to watch them on your own, in the middle of the night, with all the lights off. Then (if you're not already in there) walk to your bedroom in the dark. But the Best horror films I've seen are:

The Ring (the hollywood remake. I thought the origianl Japanese version sucked.)
The Shining (for some reason I'm keep falling asleep in the middle of this, but I still think it's a good film.)
28 Days Later (I havn't actually seen it yet, but all my mates say is awesome.)
Stephen Kings' IT (Clowns aren't really that scary, are they?)

28 Days Later, I think, was not meant to be a typical zombie movie. In my opinion, it's more of a look at how people react to trying circumstances, and how they treat their fellow humans when survival is the biggest concern. I thought it was a great movie.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned The Mothman Prophecies. That movie scared the bejesus out of me. But I'm sure my friend would say it sucks. They're like that. They think Resident Evil is the scariest thing ever. They would choose gross zombies and things bursting out of windows to a good psychological thriller any day.

The game gave me a jolt every time Mr. X burst through a wall, methinks because of the dual shock setup. But the movie? The movie was terrible. Cheesy effects, poor enviromental setup, and was predictable because of genre stereotypes instead of coherent plotline.

I'm telling you fools The Fog is surely one of the best horror films ever to be overlooked by the common teenager of today. Buy it and watch it.

Yes, The Fog kicks much ass. One of the few movies that's low-budget but good. Well, one of many movies that's low-budget but good, but still a minority. Heh heh.

Well even though I didn't think very highly of Resident Evil, I did enjoy the pure goriness and actioniness and zombies and guns an' stuff. And I'm going to see Resident Evil: Apocalypse, because it's bound to have more of the same!

1) Last House on the Left- One of Wes Craven's early [and definitely the best] films. Not so much a gore fest/fantasy kind of scary...More along the lines of psychological 'this kind of thing can really happen' terror.

2) Dead Alive- Zombies, dark comedy, Australian Romance and copious amounts of gore. What more could a guy ask for? Kudos to Luke for being the first to suggest it.

3) Pet Semetary- One of the few great film interpretations of a generally scary book. I love my animals more than most people, and this movie left me avoiding my dogs for the next couple of days. It's a timeless classic.

You are stupid. On some points you're right, such as the ridiculous gorefests (which is what your pumpkin man movie concept sounded like, ironically enough) but 28 Days Later is a good film. From one way you look at it, it is absolutely hilarious - brilliant dark comedy. In other aspects, it is still a brilliant film.

Your stupid realisation of teenage angst and rebellion is stupid too.

I first saw that movie when I was a little kid. Scared the crap out of me. I read the book earlier this Spring, and was suprised how well enough the film went along with it. Such a shame the "Pet Semetary 2" movie fell short of the first. Still somewhat decent, but could've been better.

Also, another thing came to mind. Anybody else ever watch Rose Red? I watched it on TV a while back. It's good for what it is. A cliche movie about an evil house, with an ending that could've been better. Still good enough. It had the typical British man in it that you have to love.

Or am I thinking of a similar film? Either way, I thought it was absolute garbage.

Exactly. It was also the most believable zombie movie I've ever seen. The film left you with deep thoughts, rather that a regular horror flick that just tries to make you jump out of your seat.

It also shows you how much we, as humans, need each other to survive. When Jim dreams of being all alone, this is a perfect example of that. We don't want to be alone...and that, in a sense, might be more frightening than running for your life.

:

Yes, the reactions in the movie feel unscripted and true to life, which makes it darkly funny in parts.

Oh, happy day. Esus's balls descended. I said nothing of rebellion or angst, it's a stupid movie, my opinion, respect it or go fuck yourself. My movie is not a gore fest either, irony has no play here. Don't try and use things like that against me when you know nothing about them. You think it's brilliant. Whatever. Respect my opinion and I'll respect yours.

Rose Red... ugh. How long was that movie? Four hours? Something like that? I watched most of it, only to have the freaking DVD screw up right before the end. Maybe my opinion of it would be different had I seen the ending, but I doubt it. That movie sucked.

Hmm I was just thinking a couple hours ago of a great horror movie... what was it... Oh yeah, The Relic! I love that movie. I don't really know why...
