Oddworld Sound Effects and Music?

Is there a thread coming out soon? (seeing as the last one 'died') Because I asked for background Music and I never got it, and the only sounds I could find (on a german site) stopped working when I renamed the files. So, whassup with that?

I have been working on new equipment. I will get the sounds, music, and movies thread back up once my hardware and software is flawless, until then you'll have to fend for yourself or have someone else provide it.

I have most of the movies on my HD, and used to have some of them available on Oddworld-Web. However since we moved server, there has been the always lingering issue of bandwidth and space, and they had to be removed from the site.

I think someone had the Abe-a-go-go soundtrack in mp3 format too ... I have the soundtrack myself now as well [it's awesome ... I just love listening to game music, I wish I could get more OW soundtracks], but I have no idea how to rip mp3s off CDs.

I'd recommend not putting music on the background of your site, unless you plan on having a control to turn it off. As many people listen to music while they are browsing the web now days, music on a website can be very irritating, even if it is music you like. I hate sites that play music and usually find myself quickly leaving them.

Also, putting music that is in mp3 format as opposed to midi is not a good thing, as it can be slow loading for those with dial up.

I hear ya! Background Music on sites kills me. The sites I see with music are usually the ghetto ones hardly anybody goes to.

Yeah I plan on putting in a music panel. But the sounds from that first bit from AO would be good in the background, y'know the animal sounds?

Music on sites really irks me, too. If, perhaps, there could be a warning, prior to its appearing.

It was me and Xav who uploaded the Abe-a-GoGo soundtrack, but I think Host.sk has let me down and removed them. I will get them back up, one day. I have way too much going on, at the moment.

And enough with the music threads. I won't close this one, as the topic has veered off onto something more approachable, but I closed the last one, knowing that SS would create the appropriate topic when he had his equipment all sorted out.

Hmmm, if even the videos are getting gobbled up by the bandwidth, then perhaps adding music as well would just slow things down even more. However, I did somewhat come to your rescue the other day, Abe Babe. Dipstikk wanted some videos that weren't working on Oddworld-Web, so I sent them to him over MSN.

Xav and I could do the same with the soundtrack. Possibly.

Yeah, at the moment bandwidth is a problem. Actually, we probably won't last another day or two at the rate of bandwidth consumption we're at. When we move to the new server, we'll be able to upload all the wonderful things Abe Babe and I have been waiting so long to upload

I wouldn't have a problem with adding mp3s either when we have the increased space and bandwidth available to us.

Ahh ... increased space and bandwidth ... movies. Yay!

Actually I hate bandwidth ... it kills every single site I own. *curses* Someone's getting rich out there off all of the sites around. And I don't mean the web hosts either, as they have to pay whoever they pay for the internet connections for the bandwidth, so generally pass the costs on.

Yes, I only started the thread because I had the software and hardware to extract music and footage from the game. It's more of Max and Xavs field to get the official files.

We are trying to find out from the webhost about the billing, as I paid 1 year in advance for the current plan the forums are on. So if we change to another plan, I don't want to be paying for both plans. But the webhost hasn't got back to us on the question yet. It's a bit frustrating though, as you would think that upgrading would be a simple matter.
