Abe's ponytail

What are the Mudokon-hair-ponytails made off?
What is the ring on their head to keep it together?
How does it get the strange colors?
Does it grow?
Who cuts it?
What, how, where, when, why,...

Hi, Oddipus!

I always thought that mudokons ponytails were made of feathers, tied together. that little ring maybe is just for decoration porposes.
Free mudokons, as Posers, Shamans, big Kahonnes, let their feathers grow in all their colours and beauty.
I heard once that mudokons are evolved birds. thats explain the feathers...

They look more like fish than birds.

Still it can happen, you do know that when abe dies birds fly out of his body

Hi Lampion, didn't see you again at the infogrames forum!?! Whatever.

When the feathers are tied together with only a ring on their head, shouldn't the feathers fall open? I mean, it looks like if there is something wrapped around to keep it in place. Or use they wax or something?

The idea that they evolve from birds is kinda cool. It's posseble, even their mouth looks at little like a beack (how do you spell it?)

its 'beak'. I have always felt that their ponytails were made up of feathers that were a lot like an emu's. As they grow out they become more like regular bird feathers. As far how they keep them together, you got me. Maybe they have microscopic barbs in them that hook on to each other. I really would like to know how Cili keeps her's all together, but she won't tell me. *grumbles*

The way a Mudokon's ponytail looks depends on their status. For example a Mudokon Scrub (native or worker) has his ponytail all together like Abe's. As you go up the status level you see the feathers being grown out more (such as with Shamans and Big Kahonees).

Abe Babe...

Well it doesn't really look like a bird me, the skeleton of the mudokons dont match those of birds. LIKE IN dinosaurs they have the same vertabra as a bird.
Well it is oddworld so their birds might be different so we cant relate it to real life

Hey, they realy looks like a bird, but in their skeleton there are bones in the pony-tale .
It seems like a trunk or a snout.

Abe looks fish-like or lizard-like because he is fish-like or lizard-like.

On Earth, birds evolved from lizards at around the dinosaur era. It's only natural that on Oddworld, lizards evolve from birds. Although it's worth noting that the birds that exist today on Oddworld went through a different evolution to Earth birds.

yeah it does have a bone in it. if you look at the title movie for exoddus it shows a little bone coming out of the top of abes head. i guess its like a tail but at a different end of the body.

i've always thought of the Muds as Oddworld's human equivilants, so the ponytails could be completely useless evolutionary leftovers (exept for display/status) (like the tail on humans)...

and the tail on their heads makes sense cos rats also have their tales coming out of their heads...yet more parallels appear...

I wonder why Lorne did'nt let Mudokons have a full head of hair. Instead, it's like a long hair thing sticking out of the head.

well, if you remember, Abe was originally a monk who took a vow of silence. The ponytail is something that stayed with the character. And remember, this is Oddworld, not earth. the birds are Abe's soul, or something, I think.

okaaaaaaaaay...when was Abe a monk???
he obviously hasn't taken a vow of silence because he says "Hello" and "Follow Me" without any signs of guilt...
and wasn't he a slave all his life?

Gluk Schmuck, I think MrBoj meant that the original idea for the character of Abe was that he'd be a monk who'd taken a vow of silence, but then they made the decision to change it, during the writing of the game and whatnot.

if U watch the "Reward" movie in abe's exoddus U can notice something about the weirdos, they don't have a ponytail like abe instead I've made these observations: the one on the far left has like a bone mohawk thing on his head the middle one is bald and the one on the left has stubs of hair like it was cut!
