I think you're forgetting what games were like in the year 2000. No-one had been able to work out how to do a good 3d puzzle platformer yet. MO holds up fine against its peers from the time.

That's a good point actually. I guess back then they'd just give any old shit the go ahead. I'm sure I'll be able to think of at least one good one, though.

American McGee's Alice was a good 3D platformer with a few puzzle elements.

Clunky as fuck controls but that sort of added to the charm for me.

Yes, Stew mentioned that in a podcast not so long ago. It's true that today no one would try to make a field made out of mines save one path and thus removing the ability to go left and right just in order to try to replicate the puzzles that worked in 2d.
