Abe's Oddysee Intro FMV in Minecraft

Sorry about making another topic about this, but seeing as this project is NOW FINISHED *celebrates*

Your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to spread this vid to places where you think there will be an interest! (But don't go overboard on spamming it everywhere for the sake of it, people don't like that)

Excellent work. It's great to see this finally finished. I feel slightly privileged to have helped a project of this size. You've done an amazing job.

We should show this to Lorne.

Wow! Amazing, all this hard work and effort finally payed off! It turned out really, really well. I'm proud to be a contributor. I'd like to say thanks for organizing this all and putting it all together. You've done a really good job with all this. I know you've poured your heart out into this project and I commend you on that! Without you, this wouldn't've been made possible.

Very well done, dude. Very well done! I'm so proud of you, lol. Glad I could help out and I'm also proud to have been a part of this. You did a great job!

Having said that, I do have some pointers for your next movie project. Mostly editing wise, the recreation of RF was better than anyone could expect.

1. Whenever there is text on screen it's almost impossible to read it all. The rule of thumb that I've learned when editing is to read the text out loud to yourself in a very clear way, articulating every word as it were. By doing that you don't rush over a text you already know and assume it's readable. If you read it out loud for yourself and time it, you know how long you should make it last in the final movie. It's always better to have text show longer than needed instead of it being gone before you can finish reading.

2. Did you use camera smoothing in every shot? Because some shots seem really jerky. Especially the first shot of Rupture Farms. Then comes the shot of the barrel and that seems to be as smooth as can be.

Other than that I think you did the best you can do with only Windows Movie Maker at your disposal. Using a more professional program might give you some more freedom in editing, though. Something worth contemplating in the future.

I've spread your video around the web and submitted it to one of the most visited news community sites in the Netherlands. If it gets accepted you'll most likely see your views skyrocket .

Great finished product! My only critique would be in terms of previewing; I've realised with a couple of things that they didn't hit me as well as they could have because I'd seen too much of them before they were done. I think if you'd kept more of the footage under wraps until the thing was finished, it'd've been a stronger impact.

But regardless, the video looks great. Great job.

Amazing work guys. It's these kind of things that show that the Oddworld Community is one that is dedicated to expanding the Oddworld universe using every tool available.

Great job to anyone that worked on this project.

Thank you for your support, everyone - I'm very glad that it's appreciated, your words really do bring a big smile to my face.

@Havoc - Yeah, camera smoothing was turned on for all scenes. Even though I have a 6 core CPU and 8 GB RAM, apparently that isn't enough reason for Fraps to NOT slow down sometimes. Annoying - My inner perfectionist really yelled at me about that, but there's little I can do about that unfortunately. Some scenes are sped up or slowed down to make the video synchronise with the audio, which means some smoothness is lost.

Also I did read the credits aloud after I posted them - I forget that not everyone can read as fast as I can. I could have made a longer credits sequence but people have short attention spans and I didn't want to push my luck. However, there is still the pause button.

As for Windows Live Movie Maker - It's not too terrible once you learn how to work with it and about its limitations, but I so wish I had Sony Vegas. However the only way I'm getting Vegas is if I get a successful job or win a lot of money, both of which are extremely unlikely. Of course I could also don an eyepatch and go "Yarr!" but I'd rather not go down that route. :P

@Splat - Yeah, I was aware of revealing too much. However, the feedback that people provided me with was too valuable to miss out on just for this reason and helped me make it so much better.

People like to get fed bits of information and videos. It helps keep up morale and prove that the project is progressing. If it had been months down the line with no videos, people might start to thing "is this really going anywhere?"

It's part of the reason that teaster trailers and movie trailers exist. They help draw attention to projects and show what's been done. Either way, good acting everyone!

Wow, I can't believe it! This is amazing DH! I feel proud of everyone here. I feel proud to even be a part of it. We should do more scenes. I know people are asking for it. If we all feel up to it that is.

The Abe's Exoddus intro may be possible, having thought about it (with the NPC mod). It wouldn't have quite the same effect though, I feel. Dripik also said we can make "Teh BOILER!" scene from AE.

We could also try doing every scene from AO too, maybe do a gameplay scene or two. Perhaps I'm going in over my head here though and asking far too much from Minecraft's limitations... Will think about it. Maybe if I figured out how to use the movement mod in multiplayer...

Oh and BTW, having Lorne Lanning himself look at and comment on something I had a major hand in creating was a dream that one of my friends (Alector) had long ago with her own fan artwork... It's something she used to speak of often back then, I never thought I'd beat her to it far in the future, considering how skilled she is. And actually I kind of find that to be a big shame.

Overall it's a small achievement really, but you know, I grew up with Oddworld and revere it (perhaps a little too much - Well look at what I've just done to show it), so of course it's quite significant to me.

I think ze boiler scene will be a lot of fun and we could get a lot of publicity if we do all the Oddworld scenes. But first think it over and take a long deserved break before you dive into another project

Well we can do the Exoddus intro, that would be very fun.
Imagine blind mudokons mining stone, a minecart train going overhead, a literal bone being on the ground for Abe to find, and the "Deactivate the gates" scene.

But really no rush. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't do another major project for 6-12 months.
