Found a video from the Game Design Panel at the Art Academy in San Francisco on March 3rd, 2010.
Lorne Lanning was among one of the panelists. The quality is really bad but there are subtitles so you can understand what's being said.
He gives out tips for people who are pursuing careers in game design, specifically concept artists.
Part 1
Part 2
One thing I found interesting in particular was this [when talking about the artist's portfolio]:
:
When we look at the progress of an artist, you have those that go "I'm going to sit down and make my masterpiece", and then you have others who say "I'm going to go through as many iterations I can and I'm going to create a ton of work".
Everytime the person who's created a ton of work wind up with better masterpieces. Everytime.
The best artists (and that also goes for designers) are not necessarily the most brilliant artists, but they're the masters of compromise.
