Well I had said in another topic some time ago that the wiring could be carrying signals from the brain to the pants.
The reason I said both sets serve as breathing openings is because the scent molecules need a means to reach the receptors deep within the nose. Mammals and birds do this by breathing. Reptiles like snakes and lizards use their tongues. Sharks by swimming (and sharks don't use their noses for 'breathing').
Sense sligs are not aquatic, they can't use the shark method, there are no forked tongues that I can see (but then...the mask could be preventing the use of it as well, so thats is another possiblity). So I think they use the mammal method, by breathing.
