Meeches were, I'm sure, excellent hunters. I'm not sure I agree with your belief that they had tactical minds, but most definitely it was their sheer numbers that earned them victory in battle. You see, Meeches were actually very clumbsy creatures, and were by themselves not great warriors. This leads me to believe that it was really only their numbers that contributed to their success.
Then again, the Meeches were wiped out long before the Scrabs and Paramites ( supposedly, anyway). Whether that's just because of the high demand for Meech Munchies or whether they just couldn't escape from hunters, I don't know. I suppose it could be that they were slow and easily captured, but those legs look mighty mighty.
