I opened the door to my apartment.
The door creeked open slowly and I flicked on the light switch by the door. I stumbled over to my bed and collapsed down on it. I rolled over and onto my back. I took off my gloves and then unbuttoned my white shirt which was covered in speckles of blood. I rubbed my face with my hands, trying to stay awake. I got up and took of my black suit and I took off my pants and tossed them on the floor and crawled into bed, exhausted. I was at the very verge of sweet slumber when suddenly,
*RING RING*
"Damn phone!" I mumbled.
I rolled over and fumbled with the reciever in the dark.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hey, Danny, it's Mike!" said a familiar voice.
"Hey Mikey!" I yawned, "What dya' need?" I said in a groggy voice.
"We have a little more business to deal with. Do you know who Paul Tabernack is?" I saw where he was going with this.
"I don't do political hits Mike, you know that. Family business only." I told him.
"This is family business, and it's your business too." he said, exhaling at the same time.
I paused, "What do you mean?" I asked.
"Tabernack has organized a mayoral campaign against the Family and against it's trusted associates. He accepted bribes and protection from the Capacini family, we think thats why Teddy ratted Tommy out. We need him scratched Danny ma' boy, and your the man to do it." Mike wasn't Sicilian, he was actually Canadian, but he was a good organizer and code-breaker. The family used him to tap phone-lines, reach contacts, and break into bank's security minutes before a heist. He was well trusted.
"Mike, it's 3:00 in the mornin', I'm tired. I need to sleep sometime!" I said while rubbing my eyes with my hand.
"Dan, you can sleep, but in two weeks at 4:00 PM, Tabernack is holding a rally in the park." said Mike.
"Alright I'll do it, so I guess thats my moment to shine?" I asked.
"You got it!" he paused, "Okay, heres the specifics, security is going to be pretty high, so you can't just waltz in. We'll leave you a little package on the 9th stairwell of the Dixon's and Brown's office building, the building is being 'renevated'. It has a big sign, it's on Thomas Street right across from the park, you can't miss it. You know the drill."
*CLICK*
I rolled over and sighed.
"All in a day's work." I thought.
