In the original plot I think I read something about how Abe was attempting to rescue Sam but Munch foiled his plans by accedent which inturn was the way Munch met Abe in the original story line. And that is why they disliked each other and thought each other were annoying. But of course the plot indeed changed.
And we now have Munch escaping Vykkers Labs by entering the poop chute and droping onto Abe and falling to the ground. I guess the only reason why Munch knows Abe is because news travels very quickly over Oddworld that he probabaly saw a picture of Abe and just recognized him and went from there. Ya know?
