It is susposed to resemble a gargoyle statuet on Earth but in typical Oddworld fasion. But if you examine it more closely it looks as if it serves many other purposes, such as a drainage pipe (look at the mouth and you'll see where the water would pour out.)

thats what gargoyles on planet earth were traditionally used for - rather than just having a pipe that the water would pour out of, they carved magificent statues that would 'salivate' on people.
