I think often it works the other way round - children will do exactly what their parents don't want them to do. If you look at our generation, so many of them are rabidly right-wing, and that is precisely because our parents' generation was so left-wing (which in turn was because their parents were so right-wing, and so on)...

Anyways, sometimes parents might allow their kids to do one way, but when they leave the house they do whatever they want because they are no longer in their parent's house.
