I don't think they thought it was funny forsay, heres a quote from Irwin "Thats the last damn Gabbit there is! Its lungs are worth a fourtion!" that shows that Irwin wanted to keep him for money. In the early plot to Munch's Oddysee, Humphery and Irwin where going to keep Munch for several days trying to find a
cure for Maggie. I don't know what was wrong with her that they would need to find a cure but anyways, Irwin and Huphrey kept saying that they had almost found the cure for Maggie when they really weren't even trying, just watching the Moola role in from there pay to find the cure in the first place.
