In my opinion, shooting games are actualy becoming much different. Like Xavier said, Max Payne is pretty much one of a kind. Halo has not only a great plot but actual stradegy besides rushing in and killing huge hords of ememies (well, most of the time

). GTA3 reminds me alot of driver and Max payne kinda put together, though theres really nothing like it. When Goldeneye for N64 came out that was kinda like the first kind of game like it, I mean it was hard and cool. And we can't forget glorious Half-Life, no one can forget the game with like the coolest plot and good gameplay.
I remember a long time ago though, when I was a little todler, and there was like Doom and Quake out. Then all the expansions and such just made it all the same. Duke Nukem was more or less the same thing. I think thats a change, probably because of the ability for new gameplay and more chances to make old possibilities better. Thats why Oddworld was cool, it was one-of-a-kind. Nowdays you can't really play a shooter and see them all, my opinion again of course.
By the way Jenni, I think the game was Wolfenstein. Escaping a Nazi base with guys and dogs, very repetetive and gets boring... That was the Doom era I believe, I wouldn't be suprised if you got it for free. If I remember correctly Doom2 even had two secret stages, first you go to the first level of Wolfenstein, then the last level. And I doubt your still reading my pointless knowledge of crap
