I guess I really can't comment first hand on this, because when you get to my age, most people don't like games period, as they have "grown out of them" or something like that.

But I get the impression that a lot of people like games where you shoot and kill and the bigger the gun the better. Or the more blood that you can see the better. It's kind of the way that some gaming companies market to people. Thus why a lot of people love games like Halo.

Oddworld on the other hand makes people think. Some people don't like that kind of thing. I think it's great... it's great to find a game that not only makes you think during game play, but also due to the real life issues it covers.

As for the platform thing, I guess that's just people who have the mindset that platform games = old out of date games. They think that it's not new and happening. That 3D is the way of today.
