1: Alpha scrabs are either loners or the leaders of a group. They can't stand each other and they're in AO and AE
2: A scrab herd is one alpha scrab and a lot of lesser ranked scrabs (though I keep wondering if there's a way to tell, and why none of the scrabs seem to care who you possess to attack them (a move I did once) and just hack back.)
So yea... alpha scrabs don't live in herds. :) Hope that clears it up.
