Gabbits are a very musical species. Like you said, they communicate through whistles and hoots, but their flute-like tongue can produce very beautiful sounds, probably as harmonious as their voices are adorable. They can, or at least Munch could before the game was changed dramatically, use this long tonuge to immitate other creatures, such as Scrabs, to talk with them and get them to do their bidding. I'm not sure how that would of worked in gameplay, but for a species that depends so much on sound, I think it makes a nice idea. Perhaps that's how Gabbits attack Sea Rexes, by immitating another Sea Rexand possibly getting the threat upset territorially - that is if Sea Rexes are territorial, but you should get the picture.
Apart from that, I can say very little more. Munch seems to have formed quite a friendship with the Fuzzles (or it could be the other way around), but most of the Mudokons in Munch's Oddysee just laugh at Munch ("Ha ha! Look at that!"), and the Meep are pretty scared of him. That leads me to believe that although Gabbits are amphibeous, they don't actually wander too far in land, because the Muds and Meep think Munch is quite weird. That's probably a hint about Munch's Exoddus featuring the dysfunctional relationship between the Gabbits and Mudokons.
But then again, all Fuzzles do is growl when Abe says hello, so perhaps there's a little story behind that as well.
