I shall occrect you, Texas is not knee deep in oil and booming anymore. The big booming times were back in the 20s/30s. People here are acutlay having to contatnly drill and drill to find more. Alot different then one well (like Spindletop) producing 250,000 barrels a day, eh? Its bcome a much less profitable business. We dont have the ridiculous amount of oil to tap to. The Gulf of Mexico is where most companies are turning to, but thats geting more expensive I believe and oil drilling around the cost is not nearly as good as it was. I don't know much about the other places you named, but that sounds reasonalbe. And we should use solar energy and hydroelectricity should be used more (lets build those damn and conquer those raging rivers!). I'll say this as my opinion, without the oil, some of those Middle East countreis that are actualy NICE to the world would like fall down and cripple.
