If he can get tattoos to turn into a demigod, then why shouldn't he get another one for getting higher in the sky?

Yeah, but he got those other powers in the latter part of the games, after facing difficult challenges. I can't imagine that they'd hold off double-jumping until then, and if they did it'd be a letdown of a reward.
