I remember the first time I heard this story in full, I shed a tear too. It is so heartbreaking. My heart still goes out to the time in Alfred's life, where he felt he was at his lowest but I smile knowing it didn't end the way he intended it. The saying stands, that you don't know who may really need that smile you give them today. I'm glad he found some happiness and fulfilment to complete his life with.
