And frankly, if "godfather A" gets put into power, I think it'd be up to clan B to just grow up and deal with it for the simple fact that it is just a moderator position. The new guy (or girl) isn't just gonna go banning people they don't like for no reason.

That's not the kind of attitude we should have going into this.
An ideal moderator is just that, a moderator; someone neutral in whatever the heck is happening on the forum, and who respects the views of all of its users. If we're going to resolve whatever division you think is simmering, then we need to have that kind of mindset; otherwise, we've failed before we've even started.
