I don't know. He didn't state why it was being shown privately. If I had to guess, I'd say they didn't pay for a booth because they didn't expect to have anything ready, so they're just showing it off in a back room to industry insiders.

It's likely to simply be that they have enough to show to the press under NDA, but the game's not yet in a state where they can show it off publicly. So it's more of an exercise in press relations than public marketing - show them something to keep them sweet and get their interest.
