Would it be reasonable to say that Gabbits have a similar niche to seals?
Both are amphibious, eat fish, and are naturally hunted by large aquatic predators (for seals, sharks and orcas; for Gabbits, Sea Rexes).
Their social behavior is more like dolphins and whales (their groups are even called pods, if I'm remembering correctly). Meanwhile, their breeding habits are a lot like that of salmon (except, hopefully, adult Gabbits don't die after breeding).
