reveal4.jpg has been hidden in the site since it was first launched (along with 3 and 2), and Xavier found it then which was our first clue we were looking at an ARG.
reveal4.jpg was previously the placeholder image for the Abe face reveal video, and it’s still in that same place. 3 and 2 have now been removed since the video files for the hand and chest have been removed.
Back then all 4 reveal images were different image files, so they’ve been changed recently. I doubt they would change them for no reason, and there would be no reason to change 3, 2 or 1 as they’re no longer on the page, so they may be getting set up for a new puzzle.
My theory is they’re being set up ahead of time for another puzzle which isn’t yet open for us, so they’re meaningless on their own. I’d expect more clues to give them context later.

Okay, I see where confusion is stemming from now. I recently (within the last 2 weeks) went back and looked at the very first steps of the ARG, because I wasn't involved then and I wanted to see how it all started. When I opened the links to the reveal images on the very first page of the ARG thread they were the "1" "0" "2" and "9" images that they are today. I had just presumed that's what they were when they were originally found, and that's what they had always been. I didn't know that was a recent change, because there was nothing in the thread to say otherwise.
So, I can confirm they have been changed to 1 0 2 9 for at least 2 weeks. Then reveal4.jpg changed from a 9 to that black image yesterday. It took me a while to realise what you guys were on about, as to me there was nothing new when Xav posted the links since I last saw them.

Every time we’ve had to find the challenge for a puzzle piece it’s been marked with a ? to indicate we need to find it. No ? means no challenge to find yet. If there is a puzzle we need to find, it’s not going to unlock the next code piece or its challenge.

True, I'd forgotten about the question marks. I think we can safely assume we're analysing nothing.
