I'm pretty sure that each locked piece is bound to a piece in progress. So as soon as we finish an O we'll get a new piece to the puzzle.

Sort of true. Technically, we finished an O last week and we haven't had anything since. O's can be open at the same time concurrently, though. The Facebook / Twitter ones have been open together pretty much the whole way through, and there was a point were 3 O's were able to be solved at the same time.
