IF what you say it accurate, then it seems Trump is misinformed about what is going on. The only thing I can say though is that having looked at the current wall, it doesn't seem capable enough to stop anyone determined to climb it.
Not to argue any actual data you may have that incidates a real decrease in people getting through but just on plain aesthetics you couldn't keep Abe out with that thing. .

Dude, we're humans. We can do nearly anything if we're determined enough. The whole reason mexicans were fleeing their country and illegally immigrating here to begin with was because their living situation in Mexico was horrible, and the country itself was going through extreme turmoil that made it dangerous to live there. It still has problems, but it's been resolving a lot of their issues as of late.
You really can't prevent people from doing what they really need/really want to do. They'll find a way. Fortifying the border just feels like an arrogant fuck you to people who aren't even of any concern anymore. I could have understood it when the illegal immigration was at it's worst, but not now.
And anyway, the wall think likely wouldn't happen even if Trump got in office and revealed he was serious about it the whole time. What do you expect when you say "lol im gonna make THEM fuckers pay for no passage into our cuntry"
