The hub system definitely needs a redesign, Soulstorm Brewery made me want to tear my eyes out, it would just never end.

Isn't REmake faithful to the original? Shouldn't it be sucky as well, if that's the case?

It was faithful and it added a lot of cool stuff, including lore.
