It would really depend on how expensive it was to make. Obviously a game that costs millions to make isn’t a huge success if it only makes a couple million gross, but if you got that same gross for a game that only cost a few hundred thousand it’s a big deal.

I’m not privy to all the expenses JAW had, but considering the size of team they had relative to the average game studio size plus the fact they were working with a relatively inexpensive game engine and would have been able to save some production costs by recycling old assets, NnT could well have been pretty cheap to make compared to big budget games. Nearly £10 million gross could very easy dwarf the cost of production.
Is it my bad memory or did Lorne once say something about NnT along the lines of, "I don't want to crowd fund AOHD because it's not a $1m-$2m dollar game, I'd need about $5m..."??
