My mum's been watching Game of Thrones, so I've started re-watching bits of it with her. This is less than a month after I got up to date with the books.
It's really funny going back to the show now, because everything feels like it's sped up. It's like all of the characters in this version of the story are hyperactive. The conversations just go so quickly. Also, the acting. The first time I watched through I was taking in the story and getting my head around the sheer amount of information being thrown at me. Now I know everything that's going to happen and more I can really appreciate just how bad some of the acting is, and it's not just the kids.
That said, I have a lot of respect for the team behind if for converting such a massive story to the screen. Some of the visual elements they add in are really clever, especially when they use them to expand on missing inner dialogue. It's amazing that they were able to get anything workable out of the books, there's so much inner dialogue and reflection. So many chapters in the books start in a confusing new setting/timeframe then go back to explain how the character got there, and it must have been a nightmare working with that source material.
So yeah, it's fun, but I want the books to be the version of the story I remember.
