It's not a genre if only two franchises exist within it. Seriously. Can you name any more?
It was a Smash clone. It was Sony Smash bros. I'm not saying it wasn't a very good game, because it was honestly quite fun. However I'll still never get over the fact all of the classic original Sony mascots (Crash, Spyro, Abe, Lara Croft) which got Playstation where it was today weren't in it... *sigh*

Activision and Square enix.
Also abe was never a mascot.
Edit: how many games does it need to be a genre? Cuz digimon had one and so did cartoon network.
