What's wrong with that flying mine at the beginning?

Think its a way of pushing newer players forward. You go from a cutscene where ur running for ur life and then itd be weird if nothing was chasing you. Dont know why it doenst have a hitbox though, there are a few mines in the game with no hitbox.
