BiddaMD, I really disagree with the main point that you're trying to get across. School is not pointless, it still teaches and often keeps children from being ignorant. I think that every one should have a good education (well, there are some that shouldn't..

) and be schooled. But there is another one of your points that I like: That a lot of schooling has become pretty pathetic and money grubbing...

I've dealt with anti-school issues for a long time and have heard an immense amount of bullshit. Most kids I talk to tell me things like, "I'm never gonna use this", or "History already happened, why learn about it?". And, I always thought that kind of talk is for the ignorant. I, personally, don't like school because I think the initial reason for its creation has been lost in time. (1)
School was meant to be a place to learn and become knowledgeable in your civilization. Why anyone wouldn't want to learn was considered stupid by ancient peoples, and most grabbed the chance for an education. Nowadays, it's become more than just a place to learn, it's become a necessity. (2) You go through school learning the same shit everyone else does, memorizing things, taking big tests, not really learning anything in the process. (3) Knowledge is out of the question, it's all about the grade you have gotten. (4) It's like forced memorization of things deemed "important" by society. (5) And what do you get in return for good grades? a better school.....a better job...more money. (6)
The bottom line is....school is senseless learning for cash. I don't know about the rest of you....but I know there are better things than a shit load of money. Sure, you have it easier when it comes to pay issues, but the rest of life is much more than that...It has lost its ancient roots of knowledge and turned into a greed program of stupidity. 1. Intriguing...
2. I think it is a necessity...
3. Yes... Testing doesn't really help. Testing is over done, boring and oft-pointless. Sure, they say it's helpfull and helps teachers see where a student is, but it doesn't even help most... just bores. Memorizing things... Yeah, memorized information really doesn't show intelligence (can you guess where I stole that from?), but when it comes to history, learning these facts helps you from being ignorant. (yeah, you don't like this argument, I know) Learning the same things... Eh, I dunno what to say here...

Btw, another thing is that history is often ruined by biased teachers. I'm sure so much American history is ruined by our teachers, trying to tell us shit like America always doing good. That pisses me off.
4. Hmm, I'd think that talking to students about how they've done and what level they're at would be more helpfull.
5. Yeah...
6. If you get a good grade, I'm pretty sure you'd also have knowledge...
7. I've never really thought about that... It's kind of true, though... Most things that you learn are pretty much things that are to help you get money...
8. Damned public schools! *shakes fist*
