'Candy Striper' is an American slang term for a
hospital volunteer. My guess is that it was either intended as a class of intern or used to refer to the Muds in Vykker's Labs.
EDIT: I just reread your description of the audio. It's been a while since I played MO; wasn't there a robot that Munch could control that shot out sedatives? Perhaps at one point they intended to have them as autonomous enemies.
