I'll give money to all kind of collections for the homeless people and children and the Red Cross etc. And I give money if someone is playing the guitar on the street.
But I wouldn't give money to a bumb, because he would use it to buy alcohol. We've got this program in Finland, in which this guy Karpo is defending the poor or badly treatened people etc... There was once this episode, where thay were telling the story of this one bumb. He was sitting in the Helsinki centre and begging for money. Infront of him there were these big signs: "I NEED MONEY FOR FOOD! HAVEN'T EATEN FOR MANY DAYS! I WON'T BUY ALCOHOL!" Almost everyone stopped and gave him money. When he had been sitting there for a few hours (they didn't show everything, of course.....) he stood up and went around the corner while the cameras followed him and he bought a bottle of vodka from his friend...
