Sometimes there are consequences, so what? There's Assassin's Creed where you lose after killing three innocent people. That means you can kill two who particularly annoyed you. There are games like PAYDAY: The Heist (Ontopic: Which is a good L4D-based game. It's about heists, and paydays, and it's pretty neat) which give you time penalty for killing innocent people which doesn't have any bad consequences for me so far whatsoever.
By the way, you can mass murder "guilty" people in those games. It's good, it makes you progress. Of course it's the game that tells you who to kill. Why is that any better? It's not.
However. I like it. I like killing people in games. It's fun. That's the point. So, as long as Hatred is fun... who gives a shit whether I kill 'innocent' polygons or not?
