RnC 1 did have different bolt values, it just lacked the denominations >50 that later games added. In terms of progression, it was pretty similar to the other two games, where everything is fairly straightforward to purchase except for the top-tier guns. I've never been in a situation where I've run out of bolts at the end of the game, either.

I understand Chris' complaint about the double-jump, but it's not really relevant once you get the heli-pack, and there's hardly any platforming before that. To be honest, I can't think of any really hard platforming in the first 3 games.

The checkpoints in the second and third game were really bad too, just in a different way. There were too many checkpoints, which then had to be offset by the enemies dealing stupidly high amounts of damage to retain any challenge. It's especially bad in the second game. By the time you get to Snivelak you're basically forced to farm bolts for the best armor at the time. There's just no way to avoid all of the bullets that kill you in 2 hits.
