Nah, this episode was pretty good. I was worried there was going to be a "Doctor comes and saves the day by fixing everything!" moment, but instead it just turned out that everything was kind of OK on its own. It's the kind of dissatisfying ending that's making Dr Who a dull drama rather than an exciting sci-fi monster-of-the-week show. I definitely don't like the shift, but I can see why so many people do.
Basically, it got worse as it went on.
This is the first episode I've really loved Capaldi's Doctor, though. It really let him shine out as an actor.
Also who thought it was a good idea to reuse the dumb teenage girl character? I mean, fuck.
