Regarding Abe's Exoddus' apparent slapstick humour, I think there might be a cultural difference between European/Australian and American appreciation.
I find that English and Australian people have a sense of humour that is quite different to that of Americans. Just take a look at Seinfeld and compare it to a British comedy such as Monty Python or Faulty Towers. I'll admit that the humour in Abe's Exoddus coaxed no laughs from me, but I put it down to American humour. "The Americans probably thought it was funny," I thought to myself. And that's the main thing.
