Seems reasonable enough to me. People thought all sorts of wacky shit before we found the appropriate empirical truths, so it kind of follows to consider all wacky shit to be a shoddy interpretation of something we've yet to analyse properly?

I don't think it makes me a nutter to believe that people think dumb things for a reason.
