I get where you are coming from, and I'm all for grung, but they have just enough there if not a little less to convey the scenery just right. The grung you want I'm guessing is the PS quality kind. It still looks musky and dank to me and I think it's great the way it is.
Also the one you edited reminds me of munches oddysee, not Abe's.
There are so many good games coming this year, holy cow.
