Have you noticed they fixed the mouth, the ear slit and the connection between the neck and the top of the gear in the newest trailer?

I think the little 'white' dot in the ear slit is still there, except it's alpha and the black background is showing through. The text area now has a nice drop shadow to it, making the Glukkon neck less obvious and adding a little more depth. The mouth has indeed got a darker interior now, and it looks like the neck/gear is altered as you said.
I quite like the logo if I'm honest. I think it works much better when used in some kind of context, like in the trailer or on the website. With regards to people saying that it would stand out better with more contrast, when set against a black background (as in the trailer), the muted palette does stand out a lot. Perhaps the intention is to mostly set it against a darker backdrop.
It genuinely does appear like branding so I can definitely see the angle they're coming from, though I do personally prefer the older more detailed logos.
