Xbox One isn't a bad name really. It is however a stupid name in the console's lifecycle.

Agreed. "Nintendo One" would be equally perplexing. To me it just makes me think that Microsoft wants to consider itself "number one" or wants to see it as a digital media device for every household. I think it's cocky and it might well cause their downfall.
