This new type makes me a bit sceptical. The game already has a balanced typing system, so what's the need for releasing a new type?

That's the thing though, it isn't entirely balanced. Poison for instance isn't that useful, and if the rumours are true, it'll be strong against the Fairy type. The Fairy type may also be used as a way of countering Dragon types.
Not that the typing system is horrendously unbalanced, because it's generally quite good.
If it's true, maybe Game Freak are doing it to just mix things up a bit, fixing the system may not be their intention.
