I would have said that a genre is more specific than a style or tradition. Vague terms like "Western animation" or "Japanese animation" or whatever don't provide the same kind of information as what a more clearly defined category (such as "drama") would, instead only indicating the presence of the most ubiquitous features of a general style of the art.
