But even for the standard at the time, the game was pretty low down on the graphics front. That was my point. It was rushed and disappointingly looked below par in comparison to other games of the time. That's why it has it's cartoon-ish reputation.

It looked cartoon-ish because of how bright the colours of textures were and the exaggerated gravity, sounds and animation. The models themselves look like the other launch titles.
Just look at Abe jumping, you'll see what I mean.
