I think what it ultimately comes down to is no-one likes being told:

"Hey, this group of people is cool. I'mma make something cool for this group of people. Oh, you're all fine people, but you're not part of this group."
Isn't it more like an artist trying to force his vision around his work rather than leave it open to interpretations? I'm pretty sure that's the problem with Braid's creator too. He has a fundamental misunderstanding about what it means to create a narrative.
