I loved The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. For one thing, it takes the original story to heart, but as the original book was aimed at a younger audience, this film 'ages up' the contest so that it fits in well with Fellowship. It still has songs here and there, but they're often short and work well to tie in the mood.

It begins with tales about the dwarves of old and what they awoke in the darkness. You see some familiar faces, Gandalf, Elrond and a few other friendly faces from previous films. There's a good deal of action and drama. Do stick with the film, I know the first 45 minutes isn't action-packed, but they're trying to set the mood for the rest of the tale. Trust me, it's worth the payoff. You get little glimpses of the dragon's shadow, a large amount of orcs, along with some of the other LOTR hallmarks. Overall, fantastic film and great setup for the new trilogy. Any fan would dig it!

I thought Amazing Spiderman was good. The origin story is a bit different than the original films and The Lizard makes a great antagonist here, he was always my favourite one.
